Crews continue to search through the debris of a burned-out warehouse that may contain the remains of a missing homeless man.
As we have been reporting, 50-year-old Richard Eakins may have been inside the building when it caught fire earlier this week in South Bend.
Police say Eakins was homeless and reportedly had permission to stay in the building near Western and Walnut.
Friday, an excavator slowly removed debris one bucket at a time.
That debris was carefully searched before it was removed from the scene.
Captain Phil Trent, of the South Bend Police Department, stated, "This building burned for quite awhile. It was very, very hot, and there's the potential to find someone if killed in this fire scene, could be found completely intact in one area, or if in different area where it burned at super high temperatures we could find nothing. Nothing discernable as human remains could be left in here even though somebody might have died in this fire."
So far, nothing has turned up in Friday’s search.
