The chief deputy auditor of St. Joseph County is closing the books on a very long and distinguished career.
John Lentz started working in the auditors office in 1979, when computers commonly used punch cards.
Friday, he gave his time card one last punch and headed into retirement.
His position in the auditor's office often overshadowed his other career as the statistician for the Notre Dame football team.
John said, "I've been keeping stats up in the press box for the football team, completed 36 years of doing that the end of last season.”
Lentz plans on continuing his work with the football team. He said, “No that's continuing, I like to factiously put it, it's a typical University of Notre Dame job, when they don't pay you it's yours for life.”
Lentz will actually continue to do some consulting work for the auditor’s office to help ease the transition.
