St Joe County Commissioners Plan Big For Projects

Video will be available shortly.

St. Joseph County commissioners have plans for three big projects but one major hurdle stands in their way.

Commissioners want to renovate the County Jail into courtrooms and chambers for judges.

They want to build a new community corrections facility to help ex-convicts transition back into society.

Also, they want to build a new emergency dispatch center.

Together, the three projects would cost $25 million dollars.

But, if state legislators do not find a way to bridge the gap left by the circuit breaker tax cap, the plans will not move forward.

St. Joseph County Commissioner Mark Dobson, "Once the circuit breakers are implemented, it could make today's meeting irrelevant, but what our feeling is that we have to move forward, we have to still be working on these things, in spite of the circuit breaker, so that we're ready to move should something happen."

St. Joseph County is expecting to lose $52-million once the law is fully implemented in 2010.
