The holiday was a great reason for one local group to raise money for a special cause.
This is the second annual "leprechaun leap" at Simonton Lake in Elkhart.
The brave group took a leap into the chilly lake waters, helping raise money for United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.
About 50-brave souls invented their own "Irish" version of the popular polar plunge.
Radio station Froggy 102.7 sponsored the leprechaun leap.
Beau Kennedy of Froggy 102.7 said, “We thought what better way to raise money for charity than to come out here, act like fools and torture ourselves with this water.”
Donna Anderson was one of the leapers. She added, “I'm just so excited about being a part of this event, about doing something for Elkhart County, where the money stays here for united cancer services.”
This year, the leap brought in a little more than $8,000 for United Cancer Services.
