Michiana Finds Their Heritage

Plenty of people looked for their Irish heritage or just any other ancestry Saturday in Mishawaka.

The Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Libraries held a genealogy fair Saturday at their main branch.

The South Bend Area Genealogical Society puts on the fair every year.

It features lectures such as finding relatives, both living and deceased, and ways of finding information about your family tree.

Organizers say turning to the internet is a good way, but there are also great resources in about every town.

Dave Eisen, library director, stated “A good place is to try your local library, whether it's here in Mishawaka, South Bend, or some other city. We've long been in the habit of collecting things about local history. And we just simply think there are a lot of collections out there that will be like gems in the rough.”

If you want to know more about family history, the genealogical society holds events all year long in Michiana. You can also visit the society’s website from the link below.
