Fat Around The Gut Is A Bigger Risk Factor

Doctors have long known that excess belly fat is a significant risk factor for heart disease and diabetes, and research shows that simply getting rid of the fat below the skin does not appear to cut the increased risk for disease.

Instead, a new study shows that the problem could be in visceral fat, which surrounds the organs in the gut and is much more difficult to get rid of.

Using blood samples, researchers found visceral fat secretes high levels of inflammatory molecules.
