When a stranger grabbed her, 8-year-old Ally Ogle did exactly what her mom told her to do, scream and run.
She is home safe, but the town is still a little shaken by what could have happened.
Bourbon residents describe their quaint town as a safe, quiet place to live.
But folks in town are talking, after an alleged kidnapping attempt on Monday.
Patrolman for the Bourbon Police Dept., Edward Ashcraft stated, “Bourbon is a great place to live, a safe community, things like this it just goes to show you it can happen anywhere.”
The little girl was walking home from school, when she got about just two blocks away from her home. She says a white SUV pulled up on the grass, from behind her, and a masked man got out and tried to grab her.
Patrolman Ashcraft added, “He grabbed her backpack, she struggled away from him and screamed.”
Ally ran home and told her mother.
Ally’s mom, Michelle, said, “I didn’t believe her at first you know. I still was you know a little cautious about how could we be and Bourbon and somebody wants to take her.”
Police say there are witnesses, who reported seeing a suspicious white SUV driving around the school.
Letters have gone home with all the kids at Triton Elementary School to let parents know what to watch out for.
Police say they hope parents learn from one mother's scare.
Patrolman Ashcraft says, “Always make sure you know where your kids are at all times, even as simple as walking two or three blocks home from school.”
Michelle Ogle said, “I’ll pick her up from now on. You always think it’s not going to happen to your kid, and it does, and you never know who you can trust.”
The suspect is described as a white male, about 6'2, driving a white Ford Explorer.
Additional officers are now on the streets of Bourbon, patrolling the area before and after school.
If you have any information regarding this incident, you are asked to call police at (574) 342-3105.
