Two women are dead after a South Shore train slammed into their car.
The crash happened Sunday night on the Eastside of Gary.
26-year old Jill Tutlewski of Portage and 26-year old Julie Malkowski of Valparaiso were killed.
Police say their car hit a utility pole and debris was scattered along the track.
Witnesses say the women were trying to beat the train around a crossing.
