Republicans Looking at Presidential Race

The field of republicans, making a 2008 run for the white house may be growing.

Senator chuck Hagel is expected to announce his plans tomorrow.

Hagel is a decorated Vietnam veteran with a solidly conservative voting record, and was once one of President Bush's most reliable supporters.

Former Senator and actor Fred Thompson, best known from NBC's Law and Order may also throw his hat in the ring.

But he says wants to wait to see what happens with the current candidates. "It'll be interesting to see how their messages and their personalities resonate with the American people as they campaign, how effective they are in getting their messages out."

Many thought John McCain would be the republican frontrunner, but he trails former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani by double digits.

In the latest NBC news poll, only 56% of republicans said they were satisfied with their choices.

By contrast, 77% of democrats are happy with their field.
