The South Bend School Corporation is hoping to add three more magnet schools to its line up.

Two of the schools would be at the primary level and one would be at the intermediate level.

This is in the very early stages right now.

South Bend schools are preparing a grant application to finance the three new magnet schools.

Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson for South Bend schools said adding three new magnet schools would help enhance the opportunities that students have here.

Wednesday and Thursday, the school district is hosting three public meetings to talk about its preparation for applying for the federal grant.

School district officials say their goal with new magnet schools would be to integrate students from different neighborhoods around South Bend.

There are three meetings, one starting at 5:30PM Wednesday night on the potential new magnet schools at Perley Primary Center.

Thursday night, there is a 5:30PM meeting at Marquette Primary Center.

And Thursday at 7PM, there is a meeting at Dickinson Intermediate Center.

Again, this whole process is in its early stages, and there is not yet a timeline for any details on plans.
