Unacceptable is what Indiana Senator Evan Bayh calls the problems at Walter Reed Medical Center.
Bayh says peeling paint, mold and rodent problems are just the tip of the iceberg.
He is proposing a bill that will provide better care for our wounded soldiers, and help them cut through all the bureaucracy.
"Streamline the bureaucracy. It's ridiculous that our wounded soldiers should have to fill out 22 different forms, before getting basic health assistance,” says Senator Bayh. "Repair the buildings, and make sure they are inspected on a regular basis, so there are no rats, no mold, the heating and air conditioning work, that kind of thing."
He adds, "This isn't rocket science! It should've been done years ago!"
Tuesday President Bush appointed a special commission to investigate conditions at Walter Reed.
It will be led by former Senator, Bob Dole and former Secretary of Health and Human Services, Donna Shalala.
