Police Officers Trained in the Use of First Responder Kits

St. Joseph County Police have some new tools to help keep you safe.

Officers were trained on how to use these red First Responder Kits today.

The customized kits will go inside their squad cars.

Filled with life-saving equipment, officers can use the kits during an emergency.

They include gloves, bandages and a quick clot sponge that can help stop severe bleeding. "In many, many cases it is gonna be law enforcement officers that's gonna be the first. In some cases if by some chance the medical community is tied up we may be the only thing out there for several minutes," says Division Chief, Gary Horvath.

Money from the Department of Homeland Security helped pay for kits.
