Obesity May End Adolescence Early

New research shows the growing obesity epidemic may be causing some girls to enter puberty early.

Researchers followed over 350 girls from ages 3 to 12 measuring their body mass index and signs of puberty.

They found those with higher BMI's had a greater chance of experiencing puberty at an early age for example nearly two dozen girls got their period by the sixth grade.

Past studies have shown girls with early puberty are more likely to have behavioral problems and start experimenting with and alcohol and sex at young ages.
