Hundreds of people turned out in Niles Saturday, all in the name of keeping children safe.
Tyler Automotive hosted a DNA Lifeprint Child Safety Program.
Dozens of parents and children turned out for the free program, which is endorsed by John Walsh.
Walsh, who hosts America's Most Wanted dedicated his life to protecting children after his son was murdered.
Tyler officials say they are happy to offer the service to the Michiana Community.
"We give them a safety journal, where they record all the personal information of the child, we also take a digital picture of them that they put in the journal, and in addition, we're taking a video of them," Scott Taylor of Tyler Automotive explains. "They keep that all together, and we also give them a DNA kit where they go home and swab the inside of the child's cheek, and they have DNA of the child for 80 years.”
Due to the overwhelming response, Tyler officials say they plan to offer the program again soon.
One parent told NewsCenter 16 it took about two hours to complete the entire process.
