Cultural Diversity Celebration at Marquette Elementary School

It is the first day of March, but some South Bend students are just wrapping up Black History Month.

Thursday evening, Marquette Elementary School hosted a cultural diversity celebration, and quiz bowl.

During the month of February, students studied the importance of past African American leaders.

They showed-off their knowledge through artwork and music while being quizzed at the same time. "One of the messages we want to send to the community is that we haven't forgot about our past historians such as Martin Luther King, and Rosa parks. We haven't forgotten what they did for us and what they stand for," says Family and Community Specialist, Gary Stokes.

This is the first year Marquette has hosted this celebration.

The winner of the quiz bowl got 50 dollars and a new bike.
