Indiana is one step closer to privatizing the Hoosier Lottery.
Tuesday, the State Senate approved a plan to outsource the lottery and use the money for life sciences research and college scholarships.
Governor Mitch Daniels wants to lease the state's lottery for 30 years.
In exchange, a private company would give Indiana an upfront payment of at least $1-billion.
Ten private companies have expressed interest in the plan.
The bill now goes to the House.
