When creams, lotions and other methods fail, some acne sufferers are turning to a laser treatment.
With a zap of a laser, 21-year-old Marcelo Nakagami is being treated for acne.
His dermatologist recommended the smoothbeam laser, A five to ten minute procedure that is catching on with doctors and patients.
Dermatologists say it works on all skin types, and it helps diminish scars. Dermatologist Dr. Matthew Avram says,
"You'll have the treatment. You'll come back a month later for your second treatment. You may not see too much a difference, maybe a subtle difference, but by your third treatment which is two months later, that's when we see differences."
Doctors say the treatment is not a first time treatment option.
But it is gaining popularity with patients who have exhausted other options.
The smoothbeam laser runs about $500.00 a session.
