Longtime South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke officially entered the 2007 mayoral race Thursday.
Luecke made the announcement Thursday at the County-City building downtown.
As he looks towards the future, he says he would like to see development and growth, by bring new businesses to the city.
And that he is encouraged by the city's jump in population, new jobs, restoration of usable landmarks, and the community's increased involvement.
Mayor Luecke stated, “And I believe that we have nourished that spirit of public participation through our outreach to neighborhood partnership centers, to neighborhood organizations, to commercial corridors, in revitalizing downtown.”
Three other people have already announced they want to be the next South Bend mayor.
Luecke will be challenged in the primary by William Davis.
Terry Miller and Juan Manigault will face off for the Republican nomination.
