Realistic Dieting Goals

There are the foods that give us comfort, like fried chicken.

We have all tried to cut back at some point.

Now, a study from a doctor at Cornell University finds most people start their diets on a Monday.

By Tuesday, more than 30% have already quit.

A nutritionist, Angela Lemond, at children's medical center explains why, "I think that it doesn't matter what day of the week it is. I think the word diet in general is setting yourself up for failure."

So why is it so hard to stick with the program?

The problem is deprivation. "They think of diet as calorie restriction,” Angela says. “They think of it as doing without."

Experts say the key is to be realistic about your goals. "Make those changes small but consistent and continue to build upon those. Those are the people who lose the weight and keep it off."

So go ahead and have your cake.

But, not every day of the week.

And probably not on Tuesday.
