Police Continue Search for Missing South Bend Woman

South Bend Police continued their search Tuesday for a woman who has been missing for more than two weeks.

54-year-old Vivian Borysiak and her dog have not been seen since February, 3rd when she did not show up at a family gathering.

Police found her car running with her purse inside, and her home locked, but there was no sign of Borysiak.

Tuesday's warm weather allowed police to search the St. Joseph River.

The search concentrated on the area around Borysiak's home at the Northsore Apartment Complex.

A Michigan State Police boat armed with special equipment helped in the search.

Capt. Phil Trent of the South Bend Police Department stated, “Today we were offered the use of side scan sonar which will help us look underneath this ice shelf that's out there in the river... So we took advantage of that.”

Captain Trent added, “Not really anything new we're just concentrating our efforts on searching the area and trying to do a good thorough job doing that.”

The search did not include the pond behind Borysiak's home.

Police have searched there before, and say they will probably search again.
