Indiana lawmakers may be getting a raise.
A Senate Tax Committee approved a bill Tuesday that would nearly double lawmaker’s salaries but reduce their retirement packages.
Right now, members of the General Assembly earn about $12,000 a year.
The proposed bill bumps it up to just under $21,000 per year.
In exchange, lawmakers would be offered the same retirement package as other state employees.
Both Democrats and Republicans are expected to support the bill.
If passed, it would go into effect in 2009.
