Indiana may be one step closer to privatizing the Hoosier Lottery.
A Senate committee Tuesday approved the plan to outsource the lottery and use the money for life sciences research and college scholarships.
Governor Mitch Daniels wants to lease the state's lottery for 30 years.
In exchange, a private company would give Indiana an upfront payment of at least one billion dollars.
The state's budget director says 10 private companies have expressed interest in the plan.
