Yoga Sculpts Mind and Body

The benefits of yoga have been studied by several researchers and now some experts say it can also keep you healthy subconsciously.

It is considered a trendy exercise that sculpts bodies.

Yoga practitioner Lisa Nersesova says, "You look at yourself and say, "Oh my God, my body can do this for me. It's just amazing."

It also provides a getaway from everyday life.

"It's easy to lose track when you get caught up in your job, your social life, how your body's doing, you might be letting it go," says student Lily Hanson.

Researchers are discovering the effects of mind body exercises may go even deeper.

"I think that the more I started practicing yoga, especially on a regular basis, you become more aware of what your body can do for you, not just what it looks like," says Nersesova.

A study published by psychology of women quarterly says yoga can improve self esteem.

Something students say happens because you are so focused on the exercises you stop being self conscious.

Hanson says, "You have a better sense of yourself physically and you don't really think about superficial things like, "Do I look okay, does my hair look messy?"

Psychologists say the effect is noticeable compared to women who do cardio workouts.

One of the fringe benefits they say it changes how women relate to food.

Nersesova advises, "You want something that feels good overall for you, kind of stay away from fast food or junk food."

Whether it is raising awareness or influencing choices, some women say it is worth a try.

Hanson says, "It can't do you any harm."
