Funding for Teachers May Be Restored

There is a new push to help minimize teacher turn-over in the Hoosier state.

State education officials want lawmakers to restore funding for mentoring programs aimed at reducing the number of new teachers who leave the profession after only a few years.

Their request totals about ten million dollars over the next two years since keeping new teachers in the classroom is no easy task.

Statistics show that nearly half of the nation's beginning teachers of 46 percent leave the profession within five years.
