Employees Who Workout Regularly Have Less Health Risks


Ivette Kuczenski is at the gym five days a week, and she does not have to go far. She says, "It's fantastic."

Ivette works at Aetna's Hartford headquarters where there is a company health club in the basement.

"It's very convenient for my schedule because Ihave a busy life outside of work, so this is perfect for me."

Dick Watson, Manager of Aetna Wellness Strategy says, "We have a comprehensive wellness program here at Aetna, and the reason why we provide wellness is we are a growth company, and we are striving to create a high performance culture."

Aetna employs 30,000 people nationwide, and all have access to the company's wellness program.

Employees can log workouts online and even earn cash incentives for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as much as 600 dollars a year.

"I just feel like I can do anything that's been given to me," explains Aetna employee Victoria Gallo. She participates in the wellness program by logging steps all day long. "It just gives me all this energy I need to have to get through my day."

That is not lost on Aetna, a company that provides health insurance.

Dick adds, "In a healthy workforce you'll see decreased illness and injuries which also helps reduce the number of disabilities and the duration of disability."

"I'm absolutely more productive," Ivette agrees.

Believe it or not, working on those waist lines has been good for the company's bottom line.

An Aetna study showed employees who work out 100 or more times a year save $340.00 annually in healthcare costs.
