For most St. Joseph County employees, it was a short work-day thanks to the weather.
By emergency order, county offices Tuesday closed at noon.
That sent employees at the County City building flooding to the exits for the day around what is normally their lunch break.
The courts were also closed, and Tuesday night’s scheduled meeting of the County Council was cancelled.
St. Joseph County Commissioner Steve Ross said, “Our first indication highway department called us and told us as a result of the drifting they were having a hard time keeping up with keeping the roads open, and we have workers from all over.”
While some county workers put in a half-day, others will put in a day-and-a-half.
Those who drive plows for the highway department will work 12 hour shifts through the night.
