A second Republican signed on the dotted line by becoming a candidate for South Bend mayor.
Juan Manigault first took care of the needed paperwork and then held a rally that drew about 50 enthusiastic supporters to the lobby of the County-City building.
Manigault is making economic development a key issue in his campaign.
He took issue with Mayor Luecke's recent choice for an interim economic development director.
Manigault stated, “We also have a conflict with the interim economic development director, Jeff Gibney who is also still the president of the south bend heritage foundation which is a major contractor under the city, and when you're talking about economic development activities it raises a question when you have these kinds of conflicts.”
Manigault is currently President and CEO of a non-profit corporation, known as Workforce Development Group.
He faces a challenge for the Republican mayoral nomination from Terry Miller, a former lobbyist for the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce.
