Opening statements began Tuesday in a medical malpractice lawsuit filed by Charlie Weis.
The Notre Dame Football coach underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2002.
After the operation, he fell into coma for two weeks and nearly died.
Weis says doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital failed to recognize life-threatening complications and acted negligently by allowing him to bleed internally for more than one day.
The hospitals lawyer says his clients did nothing wrong.
The suit seeks unspecified damages.
