While many teen smokers say they fear going blind more than other serious health problems, most of them do not realize their habit could one day rob them of their sight.
A survey of 16 to 18-year-old smokers shows while 81% of them know smoking causes lung cancer, only 2% of them recognized the link between smoking and blindness.
It is a surprising result considering when they were later asked to rank their fears of smoking related illnesses, blindness topped the list.
It ranked ahead of strokes, heart disease and lung cancer.
Nine out of ten teens surveyed say they would give up their smoking habit at the first symptoms of blindness.
