How Much is Too Much When it Comes To Exercise?

We all know the importance of getting exercise for our overall health, but did you know there is actually a thing as getting too much exercise?

One of the over-exercise illnesses is called exercise bulimia.

Doctors liken the condition to addiction and eating disorders.

Lisa Rubin always considered herself an exercise fanatic.

She would workout to get rid of all the food she had put in her body.

But her workouts were an obsession, and doctors diagnosed her as an exercise bulimic. “Apparently that is not a normal thing. Doctors would say to me, outside you look great, but inside your bones are just falling apart,” she says.

Sondra Kronberg of the National Eating Disorder Association adds,
“It is the degree to which your exercise, thoughts and behaviors interfere with the quality of your life, and ultimately take up space inside your head, and ultimately infringe on your wellness and your health, and potentially your life. Those who suffer from exercise bulimia cannot distinguish how much exercise is too much.”

The warning signs include a compulsion to exercise. and the need to keep moving to burn calories.

People with exercise bulimia also may have antisocial behaviors, fatigue, anxiety and depression.

If you exercise a lot and have these symptoms, talk it over with your doctor.
