Valentine's Day is just around the corner!
Some Michiana couples could be celebrating the beginning of a new relationship while others are celebrating a lifetime of memories!!
Harold and Eleanor Hoopman will be celebrating their sixtieth Valentine’s Day.
They met at a shipyard in South Carolina while he was in the navy during World War II.
“I think he had seen me in his office and he had set it up himself,” says Eleanor.
What started out as a blind date certainly proved to be a success.
The former C.E.O. and President of Marathon Oil still has a car, a Rolls Royce.
“But do you think I'm allowed to touch that? No so it stays in the garage and we don't drive any place,” says Eleanor jokingly.
Before retiring to Mishawaka they moved 23 times to places all over the world.
It’s the traveling and the constant “on the go” lifestyle they say leads to a successful marriage.
“I think that all the time we were busy there was always something going on... if we weren't traveling… we were doing something else.”
So it's never boring for the Hoopmans!
Especially now with 3 children and 7 grandchildren all-eager to listen to their love life advice!
“Just stay married. No divorces. There are no divorces allowed in this family, “ they both jokingly say.
