Firefighters in Cass County had a rough day working to put out a large blaze without enough water.

The fire broke out Friday morning at a home on North Drive on Shavehead Lake.

The road to the home is very narrow with a dead end. Firefighters say accessibility was a problem.

Fire trucks could only enter and exit one at a time to unload water.

“Basically tankers have to back in the neighborhood of a half mile, dump their water and another one has to back out there's no way to shuttle water in a rapid fashion back through here,” said Porter Fire Chief Mike Holdeman.

Some neighbors in the area say the lack of accessibility is worrisome.

The road is privately owned though so widening it would be an expense homeowners would have to bear.

“You can see how narrow that road is and it would take a lot of excavation work it would be expensive... so we are basically stuck with what we got,” says neighbor Patrick Doyle.

This is the second fire at the house in a year.

The homeowners say they both started in the fire placed.. and the most recent fire destroyed the entire house.
