Dead-beat Parents Beware

Elkhart County is cracking down on dead-beat parents.

Over the past four years, child support collections have increased 55-percent in county totaling more than 53-million dollars.

Prosecutor Curtis Hill says re-organization and re-focusing have made a big difference.

The county hired an investigator whose job is to track down people who owe child support.

"We went out and shook the bushes and if you're in one of those bushes... we're gonna shake you... we've got an investigator that we hired especially to come out and find you," says Hill.

Another innovative way the county collects money you are not allowed to re-new your license or re-finance your home until caught up on your child support payments.
