After nearly 50 years serving the city of South Bend, he is calling it quits.
Tonight, city officials hosted a retirement reception for Jack Reed at the Morris Performing Arts Center who has been working for the city for 47 years.
He started as a firefighter but for the last 19 years, he has worked in the mayor's office serving under mayors Pete Nemeth, Roger Parent, and Steve Luecke.
"It started off with the fire department on April 1st 1960 it’s just been just very very very rewarding, very enjoyable, a great 47 years," says reed.
Reed says he will really miss all the firefighters and the people he worked with in the mayor's office.
