Wednesday, the new Roseland Town Council went out of its way to be non-confrontational.
While there was still plenty of bickering between individual members; the new majority on the council settled several legal matters that had been initiated under the old majority, David and Dorothy Snyder.
Wednesday, the council voted to drop three lawsuits and settle two more for a combined total of $97,000.
The new majority also feels last year's legal expenses got out of hand.
“Now with the latest bill we're over $100,000 and we still might not be done. And that's at least one-fourth of all the monies we have coming in as a town. That is a horrific figure,” explains Ted Penn, Roseland Town Council member.
Roseland's overall budget is about $400,000.
The council is also concerned that the two lawsuits it voted to settle were not covered by liability insurance.
