The sun was out, but frigid temperatures kept many people indoors Wednesday.
Area shelters are taking extra precautions, to make sure everyone has a place to stay warm.
Michiana shelters and rescue missions are putting the Weather Amnesty Program into effect.
The Hope Rescue Mission has extended its hours during breakfast and lunch so that guests can find cover from the wintry weather.
Many of the shelters are even working together to make sure no one has to be turned away.
“When we are full, people go right down to the Center for the Homeless. It works out really well. We all work together and everyone stays warm, and we hope safe,” explains Clyde Manning, Hope Rescue's public relations director.
