Proposal Endorsed to Ban Same-Sex Marriage in Indiana

A proposal to ban same-sex marriage in Indiana was endorsed Wednesday by a State Senate Committee.

Supporters say the ban is needed to protect the sanctity of traditional marriage.

Critics claim the amendment would be discriminatory and could have unintended consequences for all unmarried Hoosiers.

The General Assembly overwhelmingly approved the constitutional amendment two years ago.

It must win approval this year before it can go to a statewide vote.
