Governor Daniels Continues Push for Cigarette Tax Increase

Mitch Daniels' plan to raise cigarette taxes has yet to catch fire in the general assembly.

The Governor wants to raise the cigarette tax by at least 25-cents per pack.

The extra money would help provide health insurance to low-income adults and immunizations for children.

But some lawmakers are skeptical and do not think Hoosiers will support the idea of a tax increase.

The current cigarette tax is 55 and-one-half cents per pack.
