Sledding Accident Kills Child

There is a sad story to report out of Michigan after an eight year-old child is dead after a weekend sledding accident.

It happened Saturday afternoon in Kalkaska County while a group of children were sledding down a hill at a park.

The sled slid off the sledding area, over a built up barrier, and crashed into a small clump of trees.

The sheriff suspects the sled spun around and crashed into the tree backwards.

Even the safety helmet the girl was wearing was not enough to protect her.

"Severe trauma to the head, the helmet that the child was wearing is severely damaged, it's broke," says Sheriff Bill Artress.

The child died at the hospital from head injuries.
