Diabetes Gene Puts Americans At Greater Risk

A new genetic discovery has found 50% of all Americans are at a greater risk for diabetes.

Scientists discovered half the U.S. population has a version of a gene that causes them to process fat differently.

The researchers from St. Louis University say people with the gene tend to burn more fat.

That fat burning can limit the body's ability to remove sugar from the blood stream and burn it.

Now researchers point out this does not mean half of us will develop diabetes.

It only means having the gene appears to raise our risk.
