The Mishawaka school board votes down a request to change the way the board is selected.
The five member board is currently appointed by the Mishawaka City Council.
Last night, school board members unanimously struck down a request to re-organize to an elected board.
They do not think it should be their decision to make.
“We feel that it’s not our position to make that decision. We should not be making the decision for the community as to weather we should move to an elected board. That’s a decision which the voters in Mishawka should decide,” says Larry Stillson, Board President.
Mishawaka education focus a group of community members is collecting signatures to put the issue before the voters.
They have gotten about half of over four thousand signatures needed to put it on the ballot.
