Dangerous Consequences of Too Many Prescriptions

Almost everyone takes a prescription drug at some point.

Today alone, 82% of Americans popped a prescription pill and 30% take five or more drugs a day.

Taking that many drugs can lead to some dangerous consequences.

Beth Hollister lives a fast-paced life.

She is a mother and world traveling businesswoman.

She is just now getting her strength back after suffering a severe drug reaction two years ago.

Beth did not do anything wrong.

She took medicine her doctor prescribed for an ear infection and her liver couldn't metabolize it.

Dr. Paul Watkinds from the University of North Carolina stated, "We tend to think of one dose of a drug being good for everybody. In fact, different people need different amounts of drugs."

Ways to protect yourself:

  • Know what meds you are taking.

  • Make sure your doctor has an updated list and work together to limit that number.

  • Use only one drugstore, so your pharmacists gets to know you and the medicines you take.
