A man is dead in Elkhart after he was shot by a police officer early this morning.
Indiana State Police say officers from the Elkhart Police Department were called to a house on the 400 block of West Jefferson about 12:20 Sunday morning for a call of a domestic disturbance.
That's when a man was shot by a police officer and died later at Elkhart General Hospital.
Police have not yet released the names of anyone involved, though the state police say the officer has been placed on leave with pay until the investigation is complete.
The state police did the initial investigation and have since turned it over to the Elkhart County prosecutor’s office.
