One local group stepped up, to stock up the local blood supply.
The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department held a blood drive today in Goshen.
The event raised more than 50 pints in late 2005.
And the department hoped this year's drive would raise even more.
Patrolman Casey Lehman of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says, “I saw the sign up for it, and I thought I'd sign up cause it's something I've done before. It's something that's needed. People need blood, and hospitals and i'm sure that it’s needed everywhere. So, it's just a good thing to do to help people out.”
The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department fell just short of their goal, raising 42 pints.
A total of 50 members signed up for the drive, and the department is hoping the drive will encourage others to give blood.
