Controversial New Smoking Law in Bangor, Maine

A new law is protecting kids from the effects of second hand smoke.

Under the law, anyone caught smoking in a car with minors will face a 50 dollar fine.

It takes effect today in Bangor, Maine.

Other areas of the country have similar laws for young children.

Advocates say the ban will help children breathe easier.

Opponents argue that the law infringes on personal rights.
