Group of Indiana Lawmakers Seek to Abolish Property Taxes

A group of Indiana lawmakers is pushing to abolish property taxes in the state.

The lawmakers say the amendment would force the General Assembly to get rid of what they call ‘an unfair and antiquated system to replace it with another tax’.

The Senate's tax chairman frowned on the idea saying the plan does not explain how it will make up the lost money in the long term.

Property taxes bring in more than $5 billion to budgets across the state.
