South Bend's Commercial Corridor and Residential Enhancement Program have been deemed a success.
Tuesday, South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke celebrated the city's improvement program with local business owners and residents.
The program matches South Bend neighborhoods and local business owners with public and private investments.
The goal? To help local businesses with city grants.
In the long run, officials believe the improvements will make South Bend safer.
“This is a great partnership using government dollars to spar private investment that really makes our community a better community,” explained Mayor Luecke.
The program first started in 2002. Since then, 43 grants have been awarded.
Gene's Camera Store recently underwent a face-lift because of the improvement program.
