Cassopolis Home Explodes

Video will be available shortly.

A Cassopolis couple is homeless tonight after an explosion leveled their two story house.

It happened just after 7:30 this morning in the 100 block of North First Street.

A charred frame and debris is all that is left of the home.

Firefighters say the homeowners were sleeping, when they heard a small explosion. "They got up, looked around, saw some small fires in the house. A lot of damage to the house, glass had blown out of the house, the back wall had blown out and they exited the house," says Cassopolis Fire Chief, Bill Fitzgerald.

After firefighters arrived on the scene, there was another explosion.

About 200 homes in the neighborhood were evacuated.

No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials think it may have been a natural gas leak.
