The top federal prosecutor for northern Indiana could be heading to the federal bench.
President Bush nominated US Attorney, Joseph van Bokkelen to fill the soon-to-be vacant district court judgeship in Hammond.
The 63-year-old prosecutor says he became interested in the position soon after the current judge, Rudy Lozano, announced he was retiring in July.
Van Bokkelen now has to be approved by the democrat-controlled senate to become the next judge.
