Saving Hudson Lake

Residents of a Michiana community are fighting a drought and hoping to refill a lake!
A large group of residents met Saturday to learn about a study of Hudson Lake's low levels.

Over the years... those levels have dropped to half of what residents say they used to be.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources recently awarded a grant to conduct a study on the lake.

The lake’s Conservation Group is considering installing pumps to re-fill the shallow areas.

Steve Varela says, “A lot of people attribute it to regional drought but we think there are some artificial events that have occurred. Like installing the Tollway very close to our watershed as well as the South Shore Railroad to the south which prevents a lot of surface run off from refilling our lake.”
